Asymmetries in the ENSO phase space

چکیده
Abstract El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) dynamics are best described by the recharge oscillator model, in which eastern tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures ( T ) and subsurface heat content (thermocline depth; h have an out-of-phase relationship. This defines a 2-dimensional phase space diagram between . In idealized, stochastically forced damped oscillator, mean should be perfectly symmetrical circle with clockwise propagation over time. However, observed shows strong asymmetries. this study we illustrate how ENSO can used to discuss phase-dependency of dynamics. A normalized spherical coordinate system allows definition phase-depending growth rates transition speeds. Based on these implications asymmetries regards predictability ENSO; particular focus variations rate coupling along oscillation cycle. Using linear non-linear models will show noise driving at different phases cycles. The results that cycle positive transitions is present all but has its strength. Much result from presenting estimates based iso-thermal depth, not ideal as it Future work address estimated better, including aspects such vertical temperature gradients meridional or zonal range. We further illustrated explain most characteristics.

Classifying the Epilepsy Based on the Phase Space Sorted With the Radial Poincaré Sections in Electroencephalography
Background: Epilepsy is a brain disorder that changes the basin geometry of the oscillation of trajectories in the phase space. Nevertheless, recent studies on epilepsy often used the statistical characteristics of this space to diagnose epileptic seizures. Objectives: We evaluated changes caused by the seizures on the mentioned basin by focusing on phase space sorted by Poincaré sections. Ma...
متن کاملRevisiting ENSO/Indian Ocean Dipole phase relationships
Here we show that the characteristics of the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), such as its power spectrum and phase relationship with the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), can be succinctly explained by ENSO combination mode (C-mode) wind and heat flux forcing together with a seasonal modulation of the air/sea coupled Indian Ocean (IO) Bjerknes feedback. This model explains the observed high-freque...
متن کاملCoordinate Space Distributions of Antiquark Flavor Asymmetries in the Proton ∗ )
We examine the space-time properties of the distributions of (d̄− ū) and d̄/ū in the proton. The difference of the antiquark distributions shows the expected peak at the approximate pion Compton wavelength and is supportive of the thesis that the meson cloud of the nucleon is at the origin of the asymmetry of (d̄ − ū), with the pion cloud playing a dominant role. The partonic distribution function...
متن کاملmarginal behavior of the quantum potential in extended phase space
here, the concept of quantum potential that has been illustrated in extended phase space (eps) in previous works is explored for its marginal behavior. unlike in configuration space, different representations of the quantum mechanics can be found in eps when exploiting appropriate canonical transformations. these canonical transformations revealed that there exist several representations in whi...
متن کاملMechanisms for ENSO Phase Change in a Coupled GCM
The mechanisms leading to El Niño onset and termination in the ECHAM4/OPA coupled GCM are assessed and compared to observations and existing ENSO paradigms. At the equator as well as off equator, the patterns and timing of modeled El Niño composites are in good agreement with those observed. Heat content of the west Pacific is confirmed as a precursor to ENSO phase change, and the present work ...
